2025 Golden Sneaker Award: Yolanda Davis Overstreet

We are proud to announce that this year’s Golden Sneaker Awardee is Yolanda Davis-Overstreet for over a decade of grass roots, equity-focused advocacy. Yolanda is a mobility champion and director of the acclaimed documentary, Biking While Black.

Yolanda is a graduate of the Urban Sustainability Master’s Program (USMA) at Antioch University, Los Angeles (2018). Her community service work and consulting fall in the areas of community organizing and mobility justice with a focus on pedestrian safety in communities of color. She is the founder of Ride in Living Color, a bicycling and mobility justice advocacy initiative that was started in 2011. As a woman of color, mother, social and environmental activist, and recently trained in urban sustainability, one of the most vital lessons Yolanda has learned and activated in these transformative years of doing community service work, is that not only does “her” narrative matter, but equally so, the “community narratives” matter. Through Yolanda’s intentional community work, she has learned to take on the role of an adaptive leader through the process of continuous comparative and observational research, along with the actions of local and national relationship building. She believes it is imperative that our communities collectively shift into understanding and valuing the connection on how policy, wellness, education, the criminal justice system, housing, climate, biodiversity, and equitable transportation play a vital role at the intersection of leading us into improved upon pedestrian safety, infrastructure, and wellness for our youth, families, and overall human sustainability.

All proceeds support our Adopt-a-Bike program. Now in its 6th year, we have refurbished and donated over 350 bikes to families in need of free transportation. This year, we are committing our resources to helping those affected by the recent fires by providing free bikes.

Volunteers Needed with setup, breakdown, ride leaders and support at the event. Register HERE for volunteer opportunities
