Safe Routes to School, Culver City

Since 2014, we have worked with the City of Culver City to reduce the number of cars driving to each school every day. We encourage families to rethink their commutes by walking, biking, carpooling or using transit to get to/from school.

This comprehensive program focuses on education, encouragement, engagement, equity and evaluation and covers five elementary schools plus Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School.

Safe Routes to School, Oxnard

Walk ‘n Rollers engaged with 21 schools in the Oxnard School Districts to develop enthusiasm for more walking and biking to school.

We worked to improve awareness of safety and active transportation. Working with each school we worked to provide activities that were most relevant to the community, including pedestrian and bicycle safety workshops and sustainable walk to school day planning and programming.

Students were also invited to submit artwork that responds to the prompt, “Why drive, when you can…?” which encouraged students to submit artwork showing the different ways they would get to school that is not a vehicle (such as a bus or car).

Our partner agency, Fehr & Peers, conducted walk audits with 52 schools throughout the Oxnard, Hueneme and Rio school districts and presented a summary report with recommendations on proposed changes to increase walkability throughout the districts.
