The Great Los Angeles Walk to School Challenge!
Los Angeles Walks is partnering with Walk ‘n Rollers to pool our resources and support parents, teachers, and community champions in leading fun, engaging Walk to School Day events in their own school communities.
Together, we’ll be offering:
- Weekly virtual organizing sessions led by Walk ‘n Rollers, walking participants through everything they need to plan a successful event.
- The release of our new Slow Jams video, created with Public Matters, featuring the ideas behind the joyful crosswalk activations and community engagement.
- Three sign-making events across the county (at LASHP, Kenneth Hahn Park, and Magic Johnson Park), where participants can create signs and materials for their school events.
- A starter kit for the first 25 schools to register for the virtual series (one kit per school), including stickers, a banner, flyers, and other materials to help get things rolling.
- Los Angeles Walks’ Walking With Purpose workshop, developed through our Living Labs program, to help parents host a post-event conversation that can turn a one-day celebration into ongoing walking school buses, walking clubs, and broader advocacy for safer streets.
If you work with schools, parent groups, neighborhood organizations, or other community partners, we’d love to have you join us and help spread the word. Together, we can make International Walk to School Day something that reaches far beyond a handful of schools and becomes a countywide celebration of safe, joyful streets for kids and families.
Walk to school days build community, reduce traffic and pollution, teach kids traffic safety and build safer, healthier communities. We’ll show you how to build a sustainable program to keep you going all year ’round and create a community walking club to keep the inspiration flowing.
Get started for free! Register today (the first 25 that register and attend our first zoom call will receive a starter WTS Day kit!)
