SUMMARY:E-bike Safety Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Join for an E-Bike Online Safety Seminar \nAs the popularity of electric bikes (e-bikes) continues\, we are partnering with the Culver City Police Department to provide free e-bike safety and training programs to help keep commuters and recreational cyclists safe. This presentation will offer information on e-bike safety\, rules of the road\, and laws related to e-bikes. Electric bicycles are heavier and faster than standard bicycles\, and without the proper safety education and training\, e-bike riders have a higher risk of becoming severely injured in a crash. \nAs e-bikes become more commonplace\, it’s also important for drivers to familiarize themselves with sharing the road with e-bike riders. According to preliminary data from the California Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System\, there were more than 9\,600 bicycle-involved crashes in 2022. At least 225 of those crashes involved an e-bike\, including four which resulted in fatal injuries. This reflects a significant increase from the previous year when there were 80 e-bike crashes reported in California. \nThe Culver City Police Department is committed to enhancing safe travel for everyone on the road. All ages are encouraged to participate in this seminar. \nLog in and join the meeting here:\nJoin Zoom Meeting https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87076394028?pwd=IaaBiH5zwqwKVwOYeTKle3bJGjlu8A.1\nMeeting ID: 870 7639 4028 \nContact\nJennifer Atenza\n(310) 253-6120\njennifer.atenza@culvercity.org\nJoin Meeting Here

Yolanda is a mobility champion and director of the acclaimed documentary\, Biking While Black. \nYolanda is a graduate of the Urban Sustainability Master’s Program (USMA) at Antioch University\, Los Angeles (2018). Her community service work and consulting fall in the areas of community organizing and mobility justice with a focus on pedestrian safety in communities of color. She is the founder of Ride in Living Color\, a bicycling and mobility justice advocacy initiative that was started in 2011. As a woman of color\, mother\, social and environmental activist\, and recently trained in urban sustainability\, one of the most vital lessons Yolanda has learned and activated in these transformative years of doing community service work\, is that not only does “her” narrative matter\, but equally so\, the “community narratives” matter. Through Yolanda’s intentional community work\, she has learned to take on the role of an adaptive leader through the process of continuous comparative and observational research\, along with the actions of local and national relationship building. She believes it is imperative that our communities collectively shift into understanding and valuing the connection on how policy\, wellness\, education\, the criminal justice system\, housing\, climate\, biodiversity\, and equitable transportation play a vital role at the intersection of leading us into improved upon pedestrian safety\, infrastructure\, and wellness for our youth\, families\, and overall human sustainability. \nAll proceeds support our Adopt-a-Bike program. Now in its 6th year\, we have refurbished and donated over 350 bikes to families in need of free transportation.
