Cycling Instructors
Our growing organization is seeking to hire a Bicycle Safety Instructor to work on Safe Routes to School programming with high schools in Santa Ana. This position involves working with our Executive Director on program development including curriculum, scheduling and creative delivery systems, as well as monitoring project plans, schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures, while ensuring that project tasks are delivered in a timely manner.
Our Bicycle Safety Instructor is creative, enthusiastic and relates well with high school students. You must be comfortable leading classes of high school students of various ages in a classroom environment. Working with an assistant, lessons will focus on bike safety, bike repair, group riding and leadership training. This position requires prior teaching or coaching experience, particularly in bicycle safety. Being a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) is not required, but preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. This position is primarily focused on high school students in Santa Ana, although opportunities to assist in Oxnard, Culver City and other cities in Orange County may be available.
We are also seeking additional cycling instructors to work at our Kids Bike Skills Workshops. Instructors will teach safety essentials like helmet fitting, starting/stopping, scanning/signaling and hazard avoidance and lead kids on group rides. These are contract, on demand positions, often on weekends. Rates: $35/hr (LCI), $25/hr (non-LCI).
Previous experience as an LCI (League Cycling Instructor) is preferred, but not required, however, our workshops count towards your annual teaching requirements. Not an LCI? That’s ok too – you can still qualify by attending one of our Smart Cycling Classes.
