Hey CCMS Students… This is YOUR chance to take part in a nationally recognized program and make a difference on campus!
- Organize a school-wide campaign
- Encourage students to be more active
- Work on ways to reduce traffic and clean the air around campus
- Develop leadership skills
The FREE program meets after school, once a week beginning April 17 and continue through June 12. Snacks will be served!
The CCMS Wheels & Heels Club is part of a California Safe Routes to School Partnership Pilot Program. CCMS is one of only three schools in California chosen to take part in this program. The student-run program’s goal is to engage middle school students to seek ways to encourage more students to bike and walk to school. Students decide what the issues are and how to resolve them. Students choose HOW to encourage more kids to bike and walk to school!
The three schools will be piloting a newly developed resource created for California’s Safe Routes to School program. At each school, student leader groups will participate in nine (90-minute) training and support sessions. Each session will be led by CCMS faculty and Jim Shanman, a local Safe Routes to School advocate and licensed cycling instructor.
Together as a group, you will determine your goals and choose one of three tracks to follow to reach your objective. Along the way, you will learn about:
- teamwork
- leadership
- surveys and analysis
- campaign development and implementatio
- and evaluation.
To participate, bring your signed parent permission slip to the first meeting, April 10.

The workshops will take place every Wednesday at lunch and SSR (11:25-12:45) in room 305.
